Triumphal comeback - Glass Tile from the 80's on style ?
Shreyank Jadiya - Mar 5, 2022
Retro vibes are the go-to for mostly every architect. We saw the return of colored and small tiles, mosaics, and now, it's time for Glass Bricks. Maybe you haven't noticed them yet, but after you read this, you will see them everywhere.
They were badly portraited for so many years, but now Glass Brick is being used to create elegant and minimalistic washrooms, bars, restaurants, and even experimental building facades. The "Retro" bricks are seen accompanied by some neon lights, Memphis furniture, and a great contrast back wall to create that 80's energy everyone is dying for.
It is not a well-known fact, but Glass Bricks were not invented in the '80s. That decade is just what our minds associate these with, but instead, they were used in 1932 at the Maison de Verre facade.
What is great about this comeback trend?
The new Glass Masonry or Bricks come in a thinner version, and most of the time, builders are looking for glass alternatives such as acrylic, which makes them even easier to install. Because Glass Bricks are often used to create division walls, maintenance is almost no effort. Because of the same reason, there is no need to use grout as the mortar does both jobs.
DYNA has studied the needs of a Glass Masonry Installation and has come up with GBM 900, our specialized mortar for Glass Block Masonry Mortar. Our GBM offers an Ultra White appearance, high strength, permanent bond, and it is frost-proof, shock, and weather resistant.
